The 12 disciples chosen by Jesus to help spread his teachings were Simon Peter, Andrew, James (son of Zebedee), John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew (the tax collector), Thomas, James (son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus (or Judas son of James), Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot. After Judas Iscariot's betrayal and death, Matthias was later chosen to replace him.
